Rajamahendravaram: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will introduce Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) on the National Highways (NHs) shortly in East Godavari district. The new system will monitor the movement of traffic on the two NHs in the district. Speaking to The Hans India here on Thursday, NHAI Project Director A Srinivasa Rao said that as part of the new system, cameras will be arranged in a stretch of two kilometres on the NHs and at some focal points and works related to the project were under progress. Meanwhile, the 70 kms length of NH-16 between Gundugolanu-Devarapalli-Kovvur in West Godavari will be completed as per schedule by April 2021. The government is spending Rs 1,827 crore relating to civil works, Rs 390 crore for land acquisition and Rs 100 crore relating to electric works relating to shifting of electric poles and towers on NH. Nearly 30-40 kms distance will be reduced between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam after the completion of the National Highway, he added. Meanwhile, the 27 kms length of highway between Kattipudi and Kakinada will be taken up for its maintenance. NHAI is giving top priority for the maintenance of NH 16 and 216 which are in a length of nearly 140-145 kms in the district.
