first_imgJames LammyJames Edward Lammy, 85, formerly from Yellville, Arkansas, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at the Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.James was born on April 2, 1931, to Gilbert and Charlene Lammy in Wellington, Kansas.  He graduated from Wellington High School in 1949 and attended college at Fort Hays.  After college he spent most of his life in the Navy aboard ship as a Senior Chief Electrician stationed in the Far East and the Mediterranean.  He also served with the Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) in Formosa.  After retiring from the military, he purchased a farm near Yellville, Arkansas, where he spent most of the remainder of his life.He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed doing both on and around his farm which bordered the Buffalo River and Bull Shoals Lake.  He also spent time working for the Forest Service as a Fire Spotter.James married former high school classmate, Mary Sarchet, the former Mary Rissel in 1975.  They lived in Memphis, Tennessee and Yellville, Arkansas.  They enjoyed fishing on their pontoon boat and visiting with other naval retirees.James was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, and by one sister Marilyn Knorp.He is survived by his nephew, Rick Knorp and his wife Nancy of Manhattan, Kansas, one niece Carol Harris of Hickory, North Carolina, one step-son, Tim Sarchet of Amarillo, Texas, and a sister-in-law Martha Climer of Amarillo, Texas.Private family graveside services will be held in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, Kansas.Online condolences may be left for the family through the funeral home website at www.ymlfuneralhome.com.The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, is handling the arrangements.last_img
