first_imgSign up for our COVID-19 newsletter to stay up-to-date on the latest coronavirus news throughout New York A 21-year-old man surrendered to investigators after allegedly crashing a car into a church in his hometown of Baldwin and then running from the scene over the weekend, Nassau County police said.Sherif Wheeler, who was admitted to a local hospital, was issued a ticket for driving without a license and leaving the scene of an incident with injury.First Squad detectives said that Wheeler was driving an Infiniti G35 southbound on Grand Avenue, when he lost control of the car and struck a tree, a fence and the Second Baptist Church at 4:25 a.m. Sunday.A 20-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash. Wheeler initially fled the scene before turning himself in at the First Precinct station house, police said.Wheeler is scheduled to be arraigned March 23 at First District Court in Hempstead.last_img
