The 6th Forum of the Croatian Congress Industry was held

first_imgOn December 5, 2017, the Croatian Association of Congress Tourism Professionals (HUPKT) organized the sixth Forum of the Croatian Congress Industry in Zagreb’s Hotel Dubrovnik. The forum brought together the profession of business congress, incentive and event tourism, with representatives of the Croatian Medical Association (HLZ), the Association of Employers in Health (UPUZ), the Association of Drug Manufacturers at the Croatian Employers’ Association (HUP), the Health Tourism Association at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, Innovative Pharmaceutical Industry. IFI), Medical Equipment (CROMED), representatives of institutions and the media – a total of over 140 participants. The main topic of the Forum “Cooperation of the medical and congress industry in the organization of scientific and professional conferences” was addressed through presentations and panel discussions. So far, many HUPKT members have encountered specific problems in organizing scientific and professional gatherings in the field of medicine, which are usually accompanied by the medical-pharmaceutical industry in the form of sponsorships, exhibitions, space leases, cost recovery and the like. In recent years, the medical and pharmaceutical industry in Europe and the world have enacted a number of regulatory regulations regarding the financing of professional medical education, so that in Croatia there are organizations and institutions that regulate this matter. When we talk about medical tourism, it is important to point out that the medical tourism industry is estimated to be worth $ 100 billion, and that it is growing annually at a rate of 15-20%, said Ognjen Bagatin from the Bagatin Polyclinic.Opportunities for Croatia on the global map of medical tourism are top quality medical service, quality equipment, experienced, highly educated professional staff, attractive tourist destination and the balance of price and value of the service”Bagatin pointed out and concluded that the main problem is the lack of a clear vision for health tourism.Since the whole situation strongly affects the congress industry when organizing medical gatherings, HUPKT at the Forum wanted to educate members on how to act in such cases, what to pay special attention to and who to turn to for advice. In this regard, all panel participants agreed that the exchange of experiences and discussions is welcome and that they will continue to work together on this.As every year, the Forum is also an occasion for the annual awards Ambassador of Croatian Congress Tourism, and this year’s winners are:Category Individuals / institutions from the scientific, cultural, sports and economic community responsible for holding international events in 2017 – up to 150 participants: Ms. Klara Karivan Director of GS1 CroatiaCategory Individuals / institutions from the scientific, cultural, sports and economic community responsible for holding international events in 2017 – over 150 participants: prof. Dr. Ivan Katavić from the Laboratory for Aquaculture, Split Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries.Category Individuals / institutions from the public sector responsible for the international promotion of Croatia as a congress-incentive destination in 2017: Congress Office of the Tourist Board of the City of Dubrovnik.Category Member of HUPKT responsible for the highest quality professional performance in 2017: Mirela Gašpar from the travel agency PBZ Card.Category HUPKT member responsible for the best professional performance of incentives in 2017: Silva Ušić from the Penta agencyCategory Member of HUPKT – supplier, responsible for the highest quality professional performance of events in 2017. Igor Huhoja from Toplice Sveti Martin.Croatian Meeting Experience Summit announcedThe forum was an excellent opportunity to present a new meetex event – the Croatian Meeting Experience Summit ( – co-organized by HUPKT and 3i Events. The summit will become an inevitable meeting place for professionals and customers of the congress-incentive-event industry from around the world with domestic service providers in the field of business tourism. The first summit starts in March 2019 in Zagreb, and in the coming years it will visit all Croatian regions – from Opatija, Dubrovnik, Split, Osijek to Rovinj.Health tourism – an opportunity we must not miss According to estimates, the total revenues that are generated globally in the field of medical tourism today exceed 60 billion dollars, and in just a few years that number will exceed 100 billion dollars. The potential of health tourism has been there for years, and now Croatia has excellent, professional and highly professional institutions, but without a strategic and complete tourism product there will still not be much progress. We have too late coast and climate, top specialized health facilities, excellent connectivity, ie accessibility, as well as amazing tourist stories – we just have to pack them nicely into a rounded tourist product and tell our guests the story.Entrepreneurs seem to be shouting loudly and sending an appeal to tourist institutions to get involved and for health tourism to become part of the integrated Croatian tourist offer. Rijeka, Lošinj and Zagreb have woken up and are working intensively on the promotion of health tourism (at least the private sector), soon in Osijek a great story is being built about health tourism, so the private sector and specialized institutions are ready and now on the system to round out the whole story and launch targeted strategic promotion, and be a support to the private sector, and not the other way around as before. Health tourism is one of the focuses of the Master Plan for Tourism Development until 2020, but a lot is written on the paper of various strategies and master plans – the paper suffers everything, and unfortunately there are still no concrete changes in the field. It’s all up to us, we have it all, and I sincerely hope we know how to harness our potential in health tourism. We must also not forget that the world is turning fast and that the competition is not asleep, and we do not have ten more years to see any concrete changes and to arrange a quality story about health tourism in Croatia. We are constantly talking about potentials, it is time to concretize those potentials. Right now and now, because when if not now – when Croatian tourism is a trend in the focus of global tourists and the media. And don’t forget, the system is there to help us, not the other way around. We have everything and everything is up to us.<br />

Rapper seeking mercy for Williams

first_imgSAN QUENTIN – Rapper Snoop Dogg urged Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Saturday to grant clemency to convicted murderer and Crips co-founder Stanley “Tookie” Williams so he can continue his work with young people. “Stanley ‘Tookie’ Williams is not just a regular old guy, he’s an inspirator,” the rapper and former Crips member told a crowd of about 1,000 outside San Quentin State Prison. Williams, 51, is set to be executed Dec. 13. He was convicted in 1979 of murdering four people during two robberies in Los Angeles. He has exhausted his appeals and has asked Schwarzenegger for clemency. Schwarzenegger said this past week that he was “dreading” the decision. In prison, however, he gained international acclaim for writing children’s books about the dangers of gang life. An award-winning television movie starring Jamie Foxx, “Redemption,” was based on his life. Snoop Dogg, 33, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, said Williams inspired him to work with young people. The rapper said he was once a gang member and now does youth outreach activities, including running a football league for youngsters. “I didn’t get this from somebody that was on the streets. I got this from Stanley ‘Tookie’ Williams, a brother that was locked up on Death Row,” he said, wearing a white T-shirt with huge black letters that said “He inspired me to want to do something positive with my life and to go touch the kids.” The rapper had wanted to visit Williams on Death Row, but his application was denied by prison officials because of his criminal record. Snoop Dogg has been arrested several times for weapons and drug-related offenses, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Organizers played a new Snoop Dogg song called “Real Soon,” which promotes Williams’ advocacy work. Todd Chretien, who works with the Campaign to End the Death Penalty, an advocacy group that helped organize the rally, implored the governor to grant clemency. “There is no reason on earth to kill him, and there is every reason to keep him alive,” he said. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. first_imgMaxi Curran will be hoping he can land Donegal’s first Ulster title at U21 level since 2010.Maxi Curran’s Donegal U21 side are the hot favourites to land their first Ulster U21 title since 2010 when they face Tyrone at Celtic Park in Derry.Curran’s side absolutely annihilated Monaghan in their semi-final last week and ran out impressive winners on a score-line of 4-09 to 1-05.What made the victory even more impressive was the fact Donegal played so well given the game was played in truly atrocious weather conditions. Donegal defeated Cavan in a thrilling quarter-final clash in Ballybofey a number of weeks ago.Cavan were going for FIVE Ulster titles at this category and Donegal look dead and buried until a last-gasp goal from Ryan McHugh saved the day and sent Curran’s side into the last four.Donegal are hot favourites with pundits and bookmakers alike, but games against Tyrone at championship level at any grade are always tough, physical games and tomorrow night’s Ulster decider will be no different.Donegal will be looking to Ryan McHugh, Hugh McFadden and Darach Jigger O’Connor for inspiration as they seek to book their place in the All-Ireland series for the first time since they reached the All-Ireland U21 final in 2010 under Jim McGuinness. The game gets underway at 8pm and Donegal Daily will be providing extensive coverage on the crucial match.Facebook and Twitter will be updating throughout the game and will be followed by half-time and full-time match reports.Donegal Daily would like to wish Maxi, his staff and all the players in the squad all the best for tomorrow’s Ulster Final.Tir Chonaill Abú. DONEGAL U21’S ON THE BRINK OF ULSTER CHAMPIONSHIP GLORY was last modified: April 8th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:celtic parkdonegalGAAHome-page SportnewsSportTyroneUlster U21’slast_img read more

Skitch Listens To Users, Revives Old Version After Controversial Redesign

first_imgIT + Project Management: A Love Affair Tags:#Evernote#images#photography 3 Areas of Your Business that Need Tech Now Cognitive Automation is the Immediate Future of… Perhaps the biggest fear for app developers is that when they come out with a new version of their product, the people who already use it don’t like the changes. It does happen – just ask Facebook.Sometimes, people eventually get used to the new design and plow ahead. Sometimes they hate the new version so much they hang on to the old one as long as they can, and completely drop the service when they can no longer do so.That was precisely the scenario facing Skitch, a photo/screenshot capturing and photo-hosting app that is now part of the Evernote family of products. Skitch is great for taking screenshots and resizing them to fit in articles and blog posts and hosting them online with custom URLs. Skitch has been a favorite of ReadWrite staffers for years because it made it easy to grab screenshots and resize them quickly for publication. But when Skitch released its new Skitch for Mac version 2.0 recently, several of us at ReadWrite freaked out about the changes to its user interface (OK, it was mostly me). The screen-capture app we relied on had been borked. We found resizing much more difficult – and other features that we had grown accustomed to also changed. It got to the point that I refused to update Skitch on my MacBook after using the new version on my iMac.Listening Is ImportantOne mark of a good company is how well it listens to its customers. If a new release collects criticism, some companies just tell their users, “this is our new product and we are sticking to it, so get used to it.” Smarter companies pay attention to user concerns and respond accordingly. Skitch did it right. On Wednesday, Skitch co-founder and chief designer Keith Lang responded to users upset with Skitch for Mac 2.0 by providing a roadmap for how his team is going to improve the app going forward. Just as important, in a blog post, Lang promised that the previous version of Skitch for Mac will remain available for download, “until the new version fits into your workflow.”I could not be happier.Where Skitch Is GoingLang’s roadmap shows a variety of features that will eventually come to Skitch for Mac. Some of those features are old Skitch standbys that were removed from version 2.0, such as auto-creation of URLs for sharing, shortened URLs and streamlined cropping and resizing. Skitch will also have direct hosting of images (like it used to) and storage and synchronization options accessible from any Evernote-enabled device. It will also get the ability to create multiple file formats from the app’s “Drag Me” tab. When Evernote bought Skitch in August 2011, ReadWrite thought it was a perfect match. Evernote promised to bring Skitch mobile (which it has) So far, the companies have worked well together. Just as important, it is nice to see that despite being subsumed by a much larger company, Skitch can still be nimble and responsive to its users. center_img Massive Non-Desk Workforce is an Opportunity fo… dan rowinski Related Posts last_img read more

Tendulkar-Vijay show thwarts Australia; Pujara flops on debut

first_imgMaster blaster Sachin Tendulkar celebrates after his century on the 3rd day of the 2nd test match against Australia at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Monday.Sachin Tendulkar closed in on his sixth Test double hundred as India finished Day 3 of the Bangalore Test on 435-5, still trailing Australia by 43 runs. After a mammoth 308-run stand with Murali Vijay, who completed his maiden Test ton in the noon session, India lost debutant Cheteshwar Pujara for four, and Suresh Raina for a quick 32.Tendulkar, who had begun the day on 44, completed his 49th Test hundred in the morning session with a six off Nathan Hauritz. He ended the day on 191 (319b, 20×4, 2×6).With MS Dhoni with him at the crease, Tendulkar would look to quickly complete his second double-ton against Australia before pressing for a chunky lead, giving India’s bowlers enough time to try and bowl the opposition out on a pitch that has stayed low from Day 1.Full ScoresPujara lasted two balls batting first time for India. He cover-drove his second ball for four, having spent nearly six hours padded up while Tendulkar and Vijay made merry. His third ball stayed low as Johnson’s appeal for LBW was upheld. Earlier in the same over, Vijay had edged Johnson behind.Sachin, who resumed at personal score of 44, easily negotiated the Australian bowling attack in the first two hours of the day and reached the three-digit in style, cracking a huge six off Nathan Hauritz in 59th over. The batting icon, who struck 15 fours and two sixes during his 160-ball unbeaten stay, got fine support from Vijay after the hosts resumed at 128 for two earlier today.advertisementAustralia were all out for 478 in the first innings. Both Tendulkar and Vijay, who hit seven fours and a six, were in good touch from the very beginning of the day’s proceedings as the former started the day with a four off Hauritz.Vijay, who remained unbeaten on 42 yesterday, completed his third Test half-century in the 41st over, taking a single after sending Ben Hilfenhaus to midwicket. The 186-run third-wicket partnership between Vijay and Tendulkar helped India to reduce the deficit within manageable limit.A composed Tendulkar was amazing in his planning as he moved from 93 to 99 with a six off Hauritz over the mid-on and then repeated the stroke to cross 100-run mark off the same bowler in his next over. The timing of the shots were so immaculate that the fieldsmen could only looked up the sky for the trajectory of its landing.Tendulkar thus made his 10th successive half-century-plus score in as many Test innings.Australia captain Ricky Ponting’s decision to set the field for a leg side trap to Vijay and Tendulkar, especially when the fast bowlers operated, did not give results as the Indians played with great caution. However, Vijay at times was seen drifting away in focus but Tendulkar twice walked up to his partner to advise him to keep his cool.Ponting shuffled the bowlers for almost every two overs but that also did not pay off as Tendulkar enjoyed his stay and always came up with big hits whatever the bowlers gave him on the leg side.On the other hand, Vijay also played to the strategy and was seen taking singles to give Tendulkar more of the strikes and continue to maintain the momentum throughout the session. – With PTI inputslast_img read more
