Donegal ladies aim to make history as they take on Dublin

first_imgGAA: Donegal Senior Ladies team are aiming to make history tomorrow evening when they face formidable opponents in the form of Dublin. Donegal are aiming to reach their first ever All-Ireland semi-final, standing in their way are Dublin, one of the sides tipped to win the ALL-Ireland outright.Donegal have been boosted by the news that star forward Geraldine McLaughlin has returned from New York. McLaughlin has missed the entire championship campaign to date since jetting off to the USA in June. Her return will be a massive psychological boost for Donegal as they face one of the best teams in the country.Donegal have regrouped admirably since their Ulster championship exit, and have performed superbly in the qualifiers. They defeated Galway last time out in a cracking contest, two goals from Amber Barrett were crucial to ensure their passage to the last eight.Dublin have an experienced team and have a multitude of players who’ve won Leinster Championship medals in Croke Park in recent years.Deirdre Murphy is a new name in the team at full back as is Lauren Magee who is set to start in the middle of the field.Sharpshooter Nicole Owens, is set to start at centre forward but the inside forward line of Siobhán Woods, Sinéad Aherne and Lyndsey Davey is possibly the best trio in the game.Donegal will again look to Therese McCafferty, Karen Guthrie, Grainne Houston and Niamh Hegarty to show their leadership, class and experience for what will undoubtedly be a tough test. But Donegal will go into this clash with confidence and self belief, and a bumper crowd is expected to travel to Longford to see them hopefully book a historic semi-final place.
