KN grenade attackThe Police on Friday issued a wanted bulletin for Shemar Wilson also known as “Abdue” for questioning inWanted: Shemar Wilson, also known as “Abdue”relation to the recent grenade attack on Kaieteur News on June 6 at Saffon Streets, Charlestown, Georgetown.Wilson, 20, whose last known addresses were given as Lot 43 North Sophia, Georgetown and Lot 51 West La Penitence, Georgetown, is believed to be the mastermind of the attack.However, Guyana Times understands that 13 persons are now in Police custody being interrogated in connection with the incident. This was confirmed by Police sources that revealed two others were on Thursday evening arrested.One of the two arrested on Thursday is said to have paid over money to the contracted persons threw the grenade at Lall’s luxury vehicle, while it was parked in front of the building on Saturday last.With the recent arrests, the source told Guyana Times that a total of 13 people, mostly teenagers, are now being questioned. The Police however, have secured an extension to detain those who were arrested since Tuesday.This include the 19-year-old driver of a Toyota Spacio similar to the one allegedly used by the perpetrators who hurled the grenade. He is said to be giving conflicting statements. He initially claimed that his car was hijacked on Saturday at about 22:30h by two men on a CG motorcycle, while driving along Albert Street, Alberttown.The car was subsequently found abandoned on Norton Street and Mandela Avenue.The grenade was hurled at the luxury vehicle belonging to Kaieteur News publisher Glenn Lall last Saturday night during the first night of wake for Assistant Editor Dale Andrews.Persons who were at the wake recalled hearing a strange sound but assumed it was a shattering glass. However, when a thorough check was made, the grenade was found lying next to the right tyre of Lall’s black Lexus vehicle.The Police were summoned and the area was immediately cordoned off while bomb experts deactivated the device. They noted it was a miracle the grenade did not explode.It was after the review of the surveillance cameras that the grey car was identified. Prompt investigations lead to discovery of the car and the arrest of six persons who were later joined by seven others as investigations continued.Meanwhile, the police are encouraging anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the wanted man to contact the police on phone numbers 225-6411, 225-227, 225-8196, 227-1149, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station.
