UN humanitarian office hears of further forced relocation of displaced in Sudan

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said it had received reports of the relocation from Abu Shouk camp to Korma, without the consultations with international agencies that the government had pledged to conduct.Last July OCHA said about 4,000 IDPs were forcibly removed from El Meshtel to Abu Shouk camp in North Darfur State, and another 7,000 IDPs from Nyala to Kalma camp in South Darfur State.Meanwhile, OCHA said UN staff members were trying to find and aid the IDPs who were moved by military and police units yesterday after they suddenly closed the El Geer camp, near Nyala town, during the night. Some went to another camp, but others were dispersed in Nyala, and Mr. Annan said he was troubled by the move. The Government, however, did not appear to have taken action to move IDPs from Otash camp, on the outskirts of Nyala, OCHA said. read more
